Wainui Bathroom

Textural movement and layering was important in creating a calm atmosphere in this artist's bathroom renovation.

Slate flooring and Rimu features within the homes existing mid-century/Frank Lloyd Wright aesthetic were carried into the bathroom and toilet for cohesion and a feeling these new spaces belonged. We selected timeless finishes that had an understated modern-classic appeal.

 Lead Interior Designer

This design was for a lovely family that wanted to update their family bathroom and guest toilet in Wainui. The client a talented artist herself, wanted to create a bathroom that works in with the feel of the house and has a timeless aesthetic. The entry and living area of the house have gorgeous slate floor tiles and Rimu timber tongue + groove ceilings and Rimu window frames, which was the main inspiration for the design direction. The warm tones on the custom Rimu vanity and bi-fold doors are paired with a warm off white tone on top of a special plaster finished wall, to create a soft and calm bathroom that feels relaxing yet stimulating through the different textures. Curves brought in through the freestanding bath, tap ware, curved half height wall as well as mirrors and lights add that sculptural and organic elements to the space, to further soften the overall feel.
